When it comes to Madison lakes, it’s not only the fish that count on clean water for swimming. Hundreds of swimmers plunge into our lakes each year, especially as part of our vibrant triathlon scene. Whether you are a triathlete looking for a great training opportunity on the Ironman course, or if you’re a casual swimmer who cares about clean lakes, the Clean Lakes Festival has an event for you!

Casual swimmers can choose the noncompetitive Guppy event. That 200 meter noncompetitive fun event along the Lake Monona shoreline is designed for the swimmer who wants to quickly access the shore if necessary.

Serious swimmers and athletes training for a long-course triathlon can choose from a 1.2 or 2.4 mile event, in the same waters as the Ironman swim course.

Are you a training nut? A limited number of supervised racks will be available for triathletes looking to maximize their training experience by self-navigating a bike ride after they exit the water. Or, even better, sign up for the Loop the Lake bike ride at 10:00 a.m. to maximize your support of clean lakes.

All participants will receive a race cap, t-shirt and beverage ticket. Please arrive by 6:30 a.m. to pick up your packet and warm-up.

All swim events begin at 7:00 a.m.
